ABSTRACT

Intermediaries play key roles and carry out important functions involving changes to institutions and infrastructures in sustainability transitions. Specific types of intermediary actors that interact between niches and regimes are analyzed including champions, innovation intermediaries, and policy entrepreneurs. Sustainability professionals can create and/or work within intermediaries as a means of accelerating sustainability transitions. Sustainability-oriented innovation intermediaries play a pivotal role in connecting technological innovation systems to triple-bottom-line economic development strategies.
