ABSTRACT

Co-teaching is becoming an increasingly popular service delivery model in inclusive schools. As part of a strong co-teaching relationship, various co-teaching models must be considered and applied with purpose and intention. When planning for differentiation, teachers must be ever so careful to approach it from the right angle. Proactively planning with the pyramid framework in mind can take the philosophical stance “all children can learn” and translate this truth into manageable, authentic, actionable steps. A Universal Design for learning minded educator integrates learning experiences that tap into the neural networks with an understanding that each learner’s networking is unique with individual strengths. Awareness of the varied co-teaching models is important—with the understanding to be intentional when selecting the right model for a specific lesson. Co-teaching models may be blended together for any given lesson.
