ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with a number of the most important internal and external preconditions of significance for the learning possibilities of the individual person. These are the areas of intelligence and abilities, learning style, gender, and what is called ‘social heredity’, i.e. the results of the social and economic conditions under which the individual grew up. There is a great deal of disagreement in all these areas about the effect they have on learning and how important they are. These matters will be discussed on a general level as far as it is possible to get into each of the topics.
