ABSTRACT

The positive narratives about older men are examined as they are formed over the centuries and how they occur repeatedly in myths, legends, stories and fairy tales in sometimes very different cultures. Whereas combat, adventure, love and passion are the great themes of the stories of heroes and heroines, those passions in stories of old men are less available – they are more likely to be found outside of such subjects (Moore & Gillette, 1991). How are the elderly and their relationship patterns to young people characterized?
