ABSTRACT

This chapter presents an introduction of the fifth part of this book. A truly vibrant media environment able to serve the needs of democratic publics is inclusive. Its mandate is to provide public forums that give voice to a multiplicity of people and groups, their concerns, experiences, ideas, and knowledge, and to articulate the on-going discussions and debates that take place within and across communities around the globe. People and communities around the globe gather in World People's Forums to share knowledge, experiences and visions of a future better able to address the needs of humanity and create a world based on sustainability, justice and peace. As people and communities across a warming world become more susceptible to increasingly virulent diseases, it is even more imperative that global media provide consistent and serious coverage of disease outbreaks that does not incite fear and confusion.
