ABSTRACT

The refugees that have fled to Europe in this global crisis have been faced with a terrible choice. Stay and risk death in the midst of conflict, or leave and risk death in the Mediterranean and all the hazards and trauma of a continuing trek over land. Hundreds of thousands have chosen to flee and in Frontline Doctors: Winter Migrant Crisis, the BBC brings to viewers the harrowing journey migrants experience once they leave their war-torn homelands. Humanitarian doctors Christoffer and Alexander Van Tulleken, follow the migrants on their overland trek from Greece all the way to France and Germany, offering what assistance they can, and documenting their conditions, struggles and aspirations. As an experienced aid provider, Alexander Van Tulleken writes from behind-the scenes about the experience, and evaluates the health conditions and medical issues the migrants face.
