ABSTRACT

Northwest of Mount Nebo, close to the ancient ruins of ‘Ayn Musa, stand the impressive ruins of Khirbat al-Mahatta, an ancient fort that offers an excellent view of the Jordan Valley to the west, the Wadi al-Hisban to the north, and the hills of Mount Nebo to the south. The builders must have taken into account the advantage of the location, with its strategic view of the adjacent landscape as well as the ancient roads coming up from the valley to the Mushaqqar ridge where the site is located.
