ABSTRACT

The World Leisure Commission on Leisure Education (WLCLE) contributes its vision of our group's work to this new feature of the World Leisure Journal. It is an opportunity to continue our commission's efforts in building an international leisure education network toward improving the human condition through leisure. Words 'leisure' and 'education' have been intertwined from at least the time of the Greeks, as evidenced by the term school, which means 'employment of leisure time to study and learn'. As part of the Commission's current goals of providing leadership for leisure education in schools, it contributes to an American Association for Physical Activity and Recreation (AAPAR) position paper that has been disseminated, entitled 'Leisure Education in the Schools: Promoting Healthy Lifestyles for all Children and Youth'. With the collective energy of all individual and agency partners of WLCLE, it creates a powerful community dedicated to focus on advocacy and implementation around the globe.
