ABSTRACT

[Mary W. Shelley] The Last Man (1826); Panoramic Miscellany, I (March 1826), 380–386. The conservative bias of the reviewer is obvious on page 381, yet on page 380 he has attacked by name Theodore Hook, the Tory hatchet man of John Bull. In his comments on the novel itself he seems to advocate a strict adherence to a consistent point of view and other stylistic improvements that show he has given some thought to the art of fiction.
