ABSTRACT

Shelley, The Cenci (1819); [Gold’s] London Magazine, I (April 1820), 401–407. Whereas Baldwin’s London Magazine, under the leadership of John Scott, tried to counteract the attacks of Blackwood’s Edinburgh Magazine upon the so-called “Cockney School,” here Gold’s aids and abets Lockhart, even going beyond Lockhart by including Shelley among the Cockneys. The reviewer has, apparently, read at least one of Shelley’s earlier volumes (p. 402)
