ABSTRACT

Keats, Poems (1817); review by ?John Hamilton Reynolds, Champion, March 9, 1817, p. 78. The excessive praise of Keats’s early efforts in this partial review – Keats’s sonnets are said to be, except for those of Milton and Wordsworth, the “most powerful ones in the whole range of English poetry” – may have encouraged the sharp reaction of less sympathetic journals like Blackwood’s Edinburgh Magazine.
