ABSTRACT

Keats, Lamia [etc.] (1820); review by ?Josiah Conder, Eclectic Review, 2nd Series, XIV (Sept. 1820), 158–171. Though Hayden has found no external evidence for attributing this review, it is undoubtedly by the same critic who reviewed Poems (1817) above. “Mother Bunch” (p. 163) figured as a teller of tales in children’s literature of the period. Keats’s “poetical rival” (p. 167) was “Barry Cornwall” (Bryan Waller Procter). For the context of the comment on “the beautiful mythology of Greece” (p. 169), see the review of Hunt’s Foliage above.
