ABSTRACT
The Rotterdam Rules contain rules giving legal effect to electronic documents, thus creating a basis for international unification of this issue. This may be said to be one of the most important aspects of the convention and indeed the initial decision to start up the work which eventually led to the Rotterdam Rules was made in the context of developing rules on electronic commerce in general.1
