ABSTRACT

Byron, The Giaour (1813); Town Talk, V (Aug. 1813), 5559. The same critical principles – or prejudices – apparent in Town Talk’s review of Childe Harold obviously underlie this review, though the verdicts upon the two poems differ. Perhaps the editor, having tried to stem the tide of Byron’s popularity in the previous review, now attempts to trim his sails to the strong sentiment in Byron’s favor.
