Byron, The Corsair (5th edition, 1814); New Review, III (April 1814), 339–343. Zanga (p. 340) was the vengeful Moorish servant in The Revenge (1721) by Edward Young. The critic’s remarks on the relative merits of heroes in the final paragraph are both original and characteristic of the ideals of the age.
