ABSTRACT

[Byron] Waltz (1813); Satirist, XII (April 1813), 385-387. As the seven sets of surviving proofs show, John Murray was originally to have been the acknowledged publisher of Byron’s anonymous squib. But, probably to hide the authorship more carefully, Sherwood, Neely, and Jones finally issued the poem. The Satirist’s reviewer failed to identify the author, but he recognized (as most critics of Byron failed to do for 150 years) the political focus of Byron’s satire.
