Byron, Lament of Tasso (1817); Edinburgh [Scots] Magazine, 2nd Series, I (Aug. 1817), 48-49. The new series begins with a new Byron critic. One of the researchers “into Italian literary history” (p. 48) was John Black, whose Life of Torquato Tasso was published in Edinburgh in 1810.
