[Byron] Lara; [Rogers] Jacqueline (1814); review by John Hodgson, Monthly Review, 2nd Series, LXXV (Sept. 1814), 83–92. Hodgson, more than many of his reviewing colleagues, seems to attempt to judge each of Byron’s successive romances on the basis of its intrinsic poetic merit, rather than on the rapidity or circumstances of its publication.
