ABSTRACT

Byron, Hebrew Melodies (1815); review by Francis Hodgson, Monthly Review, 2nd Series, LXXVIII (Sept. 1815), 41–47. The reviewer cites all the old saws on Hebrew poetry — such as Lowth’s treatise and Milton’s invocation in Paradise Lost, Book I (p. 42). Francis Hodgson, Byron’s erstwhile friend, is more critical than his cousin has been.
