ABSTRACT

Byron, Lament of Tasso (1817); review by ?George Croly, Literary Gazette, June 26, 1817, p. 49. Here, as with the review of Wordsworth’s River Duddon, the Literary Gazette steals a march on its rivals, publishing its notice the week before the official publication date. Again, the review is highly favorable, suggesting a pact of mutual benefit between publisher and reviewing periodical.
