ABSTRACT
The MONITOR, a Collection of Essays on Various Subjects published 47 undated numbers of its first volume during 1817. It was an essay-periodical in the tradition of the Spectator or the contemporary Indicator of Leigh Hunt. The unknown essayist devotes two numbers to commentary on Byron’s Manfred.
