ABSTRACT

[Byron] Don Juan, I-II (1819); review by Leigh Hunt, Examiner, Oct. 31, 1819, pp. 700702. As neither Byron’s nor John Murray’s name appeared on the title page of Don Juan, Hunt omits his emblem of the pointing hand. But the style and thought of the review are unquestionably his. Hunt defends the morality of Don Juan, even while objecting to Byron’s attacks on conventional sentiment.
