ABSTRACT

Byron, Letter to [John Murray] (1821); review by? Albany Fonblanque and postscript by Leigh Hunt; Examiner, April 29, 1821, pp. 267-269. If the reviewer who signed himself “Q” was, indeed, Albany Fonblanque, he was beginning on literary subjects before a decade as a political contributor to the Examiner and the Westminster Review. Fonblanque ‘s father was a leading British barrister, and young Albany would have had an opportunity to meet the “sage and reverend heads” of Oxford and Cambridge colleges who are castigated on page 269. Note Hunt’s qualification of the praise given to Byron by “Q.” Hunt was identified with those who had attacked Pope.
