ABSTRACT

Byron, Sardanapalus [etc.] (1821); Gentleman’s Magazine, XCI-ii (Dec. 1821), 537-541; Supplement for XCI-ii (Jan. 1822), 613-615. Whereas in the December issue the reviewer declares that Cain is the best of the three works “as far as regards poetical merit” (p. 537), a different reviewer in the Supplement finds Cain “disgraceful to the literary character of the English” (p. 613).
