ABSTRACT
IMPERIAL MAGAZINE (1819-1834) was a conservative London monthly that numbered each column rather than each page. A few phrases in the three reviews mark the journal as aimed at a middle-class readership, much like that of the weekly Literary Gazette. Nothing has thus far been discovered about its editors or contributors — not, on the basis of this sample, writers of great genius.
