ABSTRACT

[Byron] Don Juan, I-II (1819); review by John Thelwall, Champion, July 25, 1819, pp. 472–473; Aug. 1, 1819, pp. 488–490. Thelwall (who signs the review “T.” and “J.T.”) admits Byron’s power in Don Juan, but being an idealistic radical of the old school, now turned teacher of elocution, Thelwall finds Byron’s skepticism immoral. He also confuses facts and the names of Byron’s characters.
