ABSTRACT

Byron, The Corsair (2nd edition, 1814); Christian Observer, XIII (April 1814), 245-257. The reviewer takes credit (p. 246) for having persuaded Byron to employ the couplet. He all but apologizes for having failed to review The Bride of Abydos (p. 252). But again the critic demands direct moralizing (pp. 253 ff.), suggesting that this is characteristic of all great literature, including even the Hertriade of Voltaire.
