The relative youth of the reviewer is evidenced by his mention of Coleridge’s Zapolya (1817) rather than Coleridge’s earlier and far more successful drama, Remorse (1813). Brooke Bridges Parlby, who held the Local Rank of Major in the East Indies, published his Revenge, or, the Novice of San Martino in 1818. The reviewer also cites Shelley’s Cenci as a significant dramatic work.
