On pages 90–93, 100–101, Roberts discusses the growing public animosity between Southey and Byron. Dr. [Edward] Coplestone, mentioned on page 97, was the fellow of Oriel College, Oxford, who was responsible for getting Shelley expelled for The Necessity of Atheism. The author of the Remonstrance Addressed to Mr. John Murray, Respecting a Recent Publication alluded to in the final paragraph was the Rev. Henry John Todd, writing under the nom-de-guerre of “Oxoniensis.”
