ABSTRACT

Wordsworth, White Doe of Rylstone (1815); European Magazine, LXIX (March 1816), 237-239. This review of a poem that had appeared nine months earlier would seem to represent a friendly boost. Especially uncharacteristic is the reviewer’s hesitancy to retell the story, lest he “impair the enjoyment” of potential readers (p. 237). See subsequent reviews of Wordsworth.
