ABSTRACT

Wordsworth, Peter Bell (1819); Theatrical Inquisitor, XIV (May 1819), 369–376; (June 1819), 441–446. The list of Lake Poets in the first paragraph is notable for omitting Southey but including Campbell, Crabbe, and James Montgomery. Again on page 369, the reviewer compares Wordsworth with Cowley and the Metaphysical Poets. The review itself shows the critic setting down passages and summarizing the plot as he reads, and then closing with a weak, generalized admonition.
