ABSTRACT

Wordsworth, River Duddon (1820); review by ?George Croly, Literary Gazette, March 25, 1820, pp. 200-203. Here we find a preview rather than a review. In order to stimulate sales the publisher, Longmans, has apparently arranged for the critic of the Literary Gazette to have an advanced look at the volume, possibly on the understanding that if he can say something good about it, he can have a journalistic “scoop” by publishing his review a week ahead of competing journals.
