ABSTRACT

Wordsworth, Descriptive Sketches (1793); review by Thomas Holcroft, Monthly Review, 2nd Series, XII (Oct. 1793), 216–218. Holcroft, a popular novelist and dramatist, was a close friend of Godwin and was to be one of the twelve defendants in the infamous Treason Trials of 1794. His presence as a reviewer is but one indication of the liberal leanings of the Monthly Review during this period.
