ABSTRACT

Wordsworth, Evening Walk (1793); review by Thomas Holcroft, Monthly Review, 2nd Series, XII (Oct. 1793), 218. It is noteworthy that in this and the previous (contiguous) review, Holcroft criticizes in Wordsworth’s two earliest volumes the very kinds of artificial language and inattention to natural details that Wordsworth himself was to attack in his Preface to Lyrical Ballads (1800).
