ABSTRACT

There are two different types of question which are both regarded as having to do with the continuum. The first type includes Zeno’s paradox and, to a considerable extent, the notion of infinitesimals. These problems are concerned more with infinity as a general concept and would arise even if we were not dealing with the continuum but just with the rational numbers. The second type of question, e.g. the definition of continuity of a set of points or the concept o f uncountable sets, is concerned exclusively with the continuum.
