ABSTRACT

There are certain goals which are hard to dispute: to eliminate war (peace on earth), to reduce hostility (good will toward man), to decrease diseases (such as finding a cure for cancer), to wipe out hunger, to remove inequality, to spread esthetic enjoyment, to maximize human happiness, to increase knowledge, to cultivate more affection. These are the intrinsic goals. They are different from intermediate goals which are justified with the help of beliefs that they will contribute to the attainment of certain intrinsic goals.
