Audience perceptions of the conflict
This chapter discusses focus groups conducted in the three reporting countries concerning coverage of the Gaza War 2014. The groups responded to a range of questions based on their understanding of the conflict, their perceptions of violence in the foreign conflict reporting and levels of violence they considered acceptable. They also discussed the victims of the fighting and hierarchies of victims. Respondents considered whether any particular countries and international organisations were dominant in the reports. These findings illustrate the extent to which the broadcasters’ news values have an impact on their viewers.
