ABSTRACT

Section 1 of Chapter 15 provides a literature review regarding the appropriate use of weightlifting movements in resistance training programs and the rationale for implementing them. This information is followed by a step-by-step breakdown of snatch, clean and jerk technique and a discussion of literature that has examined weightlifting catching and pulling derivatives. Section 2 then provides detailed examples for developing an athlete’s force-velocity profile and speed characteristics through the use of weightlifting movements and their derivatives.
