ABSTRACT

This chapter presents some major foci of higher education professionals seem necessarily entangled with specific issues associated with masculinity and student success. It provides a summative six-stage framework to provide prompts and questions for an institution or a unit to assess the functionality and effectiveness of student success markers of male-identified students. The chapter highlights some key issues focuses on the challenges of college men enrollment, retention and persistence, behavior concerns, and engagement. It then focuses on broad issues of culture, while at other times focusing on individual students or professionals, each scenario gives a realistic portrayal of something impacting male engagement at our institutions on a micro or a macro level. While these scenarios are intended to provide an opportunity for introspection for the interested reader, they can also serve as a jumping-off point for facilitated discussions with peers and/or with the students the institution serves.
