ABSTRACT

Chapter 3 incorporates the four dimensions of human experience to describe key targets for assessment throughout treatment planning and intervention phases. For example, within the domain of relational ethics, we recommend looking for examples of destructive entitlement, unbalanced burdens spread across the family system, and loyalty conflicts, often evidenced by an inability to respond to positive offerings from others or an insensitivity to how others are being exploited. We also describe how to weave contextual elements into creating a family genogram and incorporate validated measurements such as the Relational Ethics Scale into clinical practice to identify strengths and areas for growth.
