ABSTRACT

Pragmatic leadership, as the word suggests, is characterized by a dispassionate focus on problem solving. However, among leadership scholars it has also come to imply an approach that values giving equal consideration to (a) the people involved with the organization, and (b) the social system within which they must function (Bedell-Avers et al. 2009). Pragmatism is, in this sense, an application of contingency theory.
