ABSTRACT
The papers in this section indicate the varieties of social science research on design and policy problems. Of the five papers, four report original research and one is an essay based upon available literature. Three of the research papers are directly addressed to designers and two are addressed to policymakers concerned with housing and the built environment. The variety of topics and research methods offers an opportunity to consider the ways in which particular social science research methods may be applied to particular kinds of design problems.
