ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts covered in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book enables teachers of religious education to plan and deliver lessons that will meet the individual needs of learners who experience difficulties. It will be especially valuable to RE teachers because the ideas and guidance are provided within their subject context, ensuring relevance and practicability. Teachers who cater well for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) are likely to cater well for all pupils – demonstrating outstanding practice in their everyday teaching. The book helps practitioners to develop strategies that can be used selectively to enable each and every learner to make progress. The national curriculum, SEND legislation, examination reform and significant change to Ofsted inspection mean that teachers need to keep up to date and be able to develop the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to meet the needs of all the learners they teach.
