ABSTRACT

This book examines the relationship between aid and food security through four different studies (graphically depicted by Figure 2.1).

First, in order to identify global patterns in the links between different aid modalities, recipient countries’ food-security levels and quality of governance, Chapter 3 conducts a quantitative cross-country study of all developing (low-and middle-income) countries1 from 1990-2010. The lower time boundary was set because data on food security prior to 1990 were collected differently from the way they are nowadays, hindering comparability; 2010 was chosen as the upper cut-off year as later data were not available at the time of analysis.
