ABSTRACT

Having examined the links between aid, governance and food security quantitatively, using a large cross-country dataset, this chapter delves into the relationships deeper, through a case study of four developing countries. The selection of cases was driven primarily by the availability of appropriate household data on development aid and food security as one of the main goals of the qualitative country analysis is to provide background information to the subsequent household-level research. The most appropriate countries from this perspective have been Peru, Ethiopia, India and Vietnam, where the Young Lives initiative gathered a series of suitable survey data between 2002 and 2010.
