ABSTRACT

The use of residual current device (RCD) alongside fire alarms or any fire detection system should be avoided wherever possible. A dwelling is a residential unit that is occupied by a single person, people who are living together as a family, or a residential unit occupied by not more than six people living together in a single household. This also includes a residential building where care is provided for up to six people. As a minimum, dwelling houses with a floor area of up to 200m2 per storey should be provided with a fire detection system to at least Grade D. Fire escapes must be identified. An escape route can be any route from any building or room, and care must be taken when installing containment systems and cables to ensure that in event of a fire they do not collapse and block the route.
