ABSTRACT

In particular, the somatic awareness and anatomical imagery of Body-Mind Centering (BMC) can be utilized to create a unique physical dramaturgy. The specificity and detail of the BMC approach gives the actor access to the inherent variety of texture and expression of all the major body systems – skeletal, muscular, organ, gland, fluid, and nervous systems. BMC offers many techniques for developing strength, coordination, flexibility, and the re-patterning of physical and emotional blocks. In BMC the sensory-motor loop is both a metaphor and a physicalized image for accessing and developing the capacity for authentic response to any given circumstance. In BMC there are six major fluids that we explore – Blood, Synovial or joint Fluid, Cerebral Spinal Fluid, Lymph, Interstitial, and Cellular Fluid. One of the most enjoyable and effective ways to explore the fluids is through music that reflects the rhythmic pulses and movements of our own fluids.
