ABSTRACT

Canada’s Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (a.k.a. TCPS 2) is a remarkable and unique document. It provides both a concise definition of qualitative research in its many shades as well as providing sound guidance for both researchers and members of research ethics boards to apply as much in procedural ethics as in ethics in practice. This chapter has two goals. First, it charts the evolution of this ground-breaking Chapter 10 of TCPS 2 as well as providing exemplars from Chapter 10 that demonstrate why this set of ethics guidelines warrants becoming the default code of ethics for qualitative research internationally.
