ABSTRACT

The oil and gas industry in Texas is aware of communities opposition to fracking in various parts of the state. To reduce or eliminate it, the big and small oil and gas companies both from within and outside the state have undertaken several measures. These include the education of residents on drilling facts, tours of drilling sites, meetings with concerned individuals to build better community relations, and the sponsoring of local events or the building of facilities to benefit the residents. Additionally, the non-profit organizations have stepped in to cater for other needs of the industry. The non-profit organizations also offer outreach services and try to restore a community’s faith in this advanced drilling procedure by building partnerships, through the dissemination of relevant information on oil and natural gas production, and by providing opposition to environmental organizations’ allegations of environmental abuse.
