ABSTRACT

When working with young athletes sport psychology practitioners are only a single part of a social–environmental system influencing that individual. In this chapter, the authors share their views on the factors that are important to consider when attempting to integrate sport psychology services into youth sport settings. Specifically, they stress the importance of practitioner services that aim to be mutually beneficial to a young athlete’s psychosocial development, wellbeing, athletic performance, and the coach–-athlete relationship. By drawing on relevant applied research and extensive practitioner experience, four schemes of work targeted at athletes, coaches, and organisational stakeholders showcase interventions that represent integrated sport psychology in action.
